Snoring is caused when the tissue surrounding your airway relaxes while you sleep and begins vibrating when you breathe. In severe cases, your airway can become blocked and prevent you from breathing, in a condition known as obstructive sleep apnea.
In some cases, dental treatment can alleviate snoring and apnea. We can take special X-rays of the side of your jaw to determine if your symptoms are being caused by the position of your jaws and tongue. Sometimes a simple dental appliance can be prescribed to hold your mouth and tongue in place to prevent snoring.
We can also counsel you on other snoring and apnea treatments such as lifestyle changes, sleeping positions, and CPAP systems.
